Company Profile

ARICA

Formed in 2001. Yasuki Fujita (Director), Tomoko Ando (Actor), Shino Kuraishi (Poet) as core member, they create mainly solo performance. Each creation featured the unique collaborations with various artists and performers working in dance, graphic art, design, and architecture. They have explored the progressive physical and vocal expression as the center of their theme. Through the site-specific approach, live music and mechanical devices resonating the body movements, they develop their experimental way of creation in order to open up the new horizon of body expression. In recent years, they often have visited India, and developed their collaboration with the native actors through their performances and workshops. They also have studied about Samuel Becket for some years, and created the pieces inspired by his work. The ARICA’s works, interweaved with the progressive modernism and the vernacular terms, have attracted national and international audience as performance beyond the boundaries of theatre and dance.
